Rocket Scientist
Apply to JobOverview
We are expanding our aerospace development team to design, build, and launch our next generation of experimental propulsion systems and low-altitude test vehicles. We are looking for a hands-on Rocket Scientist to bridge the gap between aerospace theory and physical prototypes. In this role, you will transition quickly from computer-aided design to active workshop assembly and live field testing. If you want a role where you can see your calculations turn into physical hardware and watch your work fly, this position offers direct, practical experience with experimental rocketry.
What You Will Do
Your work will balance theoretical design with physical fabrication and data analysis. Success in this role means safely executing test plans, gathering reliable flight data, and iterating on designs to improve vehicle performance.
- Design & Simulation: Run computer simulations to predict flight trajectories, aerodynamic stability, and engine performance metrics.
- Hands-On Assembly: Work in our fabrication space to assemble, integrate, and modify prototype rocket components, thrusters, and fuel systems.
- Test Operations: Set up and operate test stands for static engine burns and low-altitude launches, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Data Analysis: Retrieve and analyze telemetry and sensor data post-test to identify mechanical issues and suggest design improvements.
- Documentation: Maintain clear, precise logs of test procedures, component failures, and engineering changes.
What You Bring
We value practical problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and a strong foundational understanding of aerospace principles.
Must-Have Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
- Proficiency with CAD software (such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Autodesk) for 3D modeling and drafting.
- Solid understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and propulsion principles.
- Experience using hand tools, basic power tools, and workshop machinery to build or repair physical systems.
- A disciplined commitment to safety protocols and procedural checklists.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Active certification with high-power rocketry organizations (such as NAR or Tripoli).
- Experience programming in Python, C++, or MATLAB for data analysis and sensor integration.
- Prior experience operating test stands or handling pressurized propellant systems.
Compensation
This is a full-time position offering an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain direct, hands-on aerospace testing and launch operations experience that is rare in larger corporate environments.
