Healthcare Security Officer
Apply NowRole Overview
Healthcare security requires a thoughtful, human-centered approach. At Valley Regional Hospital, our Healthcare Security Officers do much more than conduct safety patrols—they serve as a reassuring presence for patients, visitors, and hospital staff during vulnerable moments. In this role, you will help protect the environment where critical care happens, responding to incidents with empathy, clear judgment, and professionalism.
What Success Looks Like
On a day-to-day basis, success in this role means maintaining a visible and helpful presence throughout the facility. You will balance proactive safety measures—such as foot patrols, access control, and camera monitoring—with compassionate customer service. When challenging or high-stress situations arise, you will use verbal de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts peacefully and support medical teams during emergencies.
Over time, a successful Security Officer builds trusted relationships with hospital staff, demonstrates consistent reliability across day and night shifts, and accurately logs daily activity to support ongoing site safety.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct Facility Patrols: Regularly inspect indoor and outdoor areas, including hallways, patient units, entrances, and parking lots, to ensure a safe environment.
Manage Access & Surveillance: Monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and restricted entry points to prevent unauthorized access.
De-escalate & Resolve Conflict: Calmly manage tense or unpredictable situations using verbal de-escalation and sound decision-making.
Respond to Emergencies: Act swiftly during medical emergencies, fire alarms, evacuations, and security alerts, working closely with hospital staff and first responders.
Assist Staff & Visitors: Provide clear directions, offer general customer service, and support clinical teams with patient transfers or safety protocols when requested.
Complete Detailed Reports: Maintain accurate daily logs and submit thorough incident reports before the end of each shift.
